COVID changed our lives
some for better, some for worse
better? really!
millions dead!
living in fear!
no goodbyes to dying Dad!
does it get worse?
Those awful days
COVID for better?
three years later
we wonder
for some
perhaps it was.
COVID was a reset
sheltering in place
gave me pause
what I value
what is trivial.
Do I need these?
clothes beckoning ‘wear me.’
shoes crying, ‘walk me’
pocketbooks beseeching ‘carry me’
four coats!
stop buying
give landfills a break.
Hunkered down
I write what I feel
write what I see
share thoughts
zoom in, zoom out
zoom out, zoom in
in out, out in.
Making new friends
not touching
one screen, then two
more friends
lost count.
Slowing down
watch: sky changed color
hear: raindrops against window
listen: birdie chirping
see: blossoms budding
feel: light wind against cheek.
Never to take for granted
feel of a tight hug
cuddles with grandkids
friends on a bench
movie on big screen.
Once, a quick text
now, long phone call
no waiting till tomorrow
say the words today
I love you.
Weekly family zooms
Pakistan and beyond
friends, you too
once, just birthday emojis
now, why the cough?
nice haircut
your voice cracking
moustache too
yoo-hoo.

today a fixture
