Let me see things
as you meant them to be
Let me change things
as you want them to be
Give me the wisdom
to understand
Give me the courage to change.
Slow me down so I can hear:
The stillness of the endless skies
The unspoken words of love
The silent cry of a face in the crowd
The laughter in my children’s eyes
The quiet pain of hurt inflicted
The peace and calm before the storm.
Teach me to listen.
Bestow upon me your bounty:
Lend me your knowledge
and help me to teach
Give me success
and help me to serve
Make me wealthy
and teach me to share
Keep me healthy
and help me to heal.
Teach me to give.
Hold up your lamp, so I can see:
The spirit in those who tried
but failed
The light of dawn
at the edge of night
The anguish that lies
behind harsh words
The flickering desire
in eyes that can’t see
limbs that can’t move.
Teach me to see.
